The Andalusian Energy Agency, entity assigned to the Regional Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Science and Employment, has taken part in the Fifth Forum of Greencities & Sustainability, dedicated this year to Intelligence applied to Urban Sustainability. The Agency has participated with the presentations “Innovation in Energy Planning” and “Tools, Plans and Strategies for the Promotion of Coordinated Actions to Improve Energy Efficiency”, the second together with the Institute for Energy Saving and Diversification (IDAE) and the Andalusian Smart City Cluster. The Agency has also formed part of the Round Table “Mobility in the City of the Future” and has been present with an informative stand promoting the European project ENPI MED DESIRE, of which the Andalusian Energy Agency is a partner, and whose objective is the transfer of good practices in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency, in the organisational, economic, legislative and legal fields, among the participating countries in Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Egypt and Lebanon.
The Head of the Internationalisation and Prospective Department, Joaquín Villar, delivered the two presentations through which he has shown how energy planning has an enormous impact in the regional economy and is especially relevant in the current context. The Andalusian Sustainable Energy Plan 2007-2013 has been completed and it is necessary to propose a new framework, corresponding to the Andalusian Energy Strategy 2014 – 2020, which will contribute to the recovery of the regional economy through a model of development adapted to the current situation, with objectives aligned with the fulfillment of the European Strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. A wide range of market actors from the Andalusian society and with roles in the energy sector (consumers, producers, economic and social actors, government, etc.) have been involved in the elaboration of the Strategy.
Andalusia has at present basic R+D+i structures in the European and global energy sector (Advanced Technological Centre of Renewable Energies - Centro Tecnológico Avanzado de Energías Renovables (CTAER)), Universities, Solar Platform of Almería, etc.) and with companies involved in many energy innovation projects that are managed by the IDEA Agency (Agencia de Innovación de Andalucía), the Andalusian Technological Corporation (Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía) or the different EU programmes with funding (7th Framework Programme, Energy Intelligent, etc)
In the Round Table “Mobility in the City of the Future”, the Andalusian Energy Agency has estimated that, in less than 10 years, electric mobility will be preferred by citizens and Andalusia can turn into a leading provider of this technology. The Agency explained that Andalusia is promoting its use through the Programme to Promote Electric Vehicles in order to boost the demand of the technologies linked to pure electric mobility, plug and electric extended-range hybrid, as well as hybrid technology in areas where it is less known (transport fleets, government).
