MED DESIRE project participation in SMART ENERGY EXPO, Verona, Italy

Monday, 13 October 2014 11:53

Smart Energy Expo is the most important event in Italy dedicated to Energy Efficiency solutions, products and technologies. In the last successful edition held in Verona on October 8-10, 2014, MED-DESIRE Italian partners were present to promote project activities, enhancing contacts and exchange of knowledge and information with national and international high-competence networks consisting of companies, financial operators, scientific experts and institutional representatives.

On October 10th, during the workshop held by ENEA concerning Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) of the EC Covenant of Mayors initiative, it was highlighted the interest shown by countries of the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean basin for such European scheme, aimed at improving the uptake of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficient technologies at the local level. It was also explained how MED-DESIRE partners are now working along the line of the SEAP model addressing the specific needs of Egypt, Lebanon and Tunisia municipalities, in order to update the certification/qualification schemes of RE/EE components and systems as well as to increase and expand the quality of vocational education training programs of the involved operators.

Italian companies visiting the MED-DESIRE space were informed about the RE/EE market potential in the Mediterranean countries and their growing need of consistent, high-quality installations of the related technologies. They were made aware of the expected taking up of NREAPs (National Renewable Energy Action Plans) by MENA Regions, as recently announced at BEF (Beirut Energy Forum – Sept. 2014), pointing out that the diffusion of this important policy instrument will further accelerate the market growth in the Mediterranean area and increase business opportunities for RE/EE technology suppliers.
