Now online the Financial Support Mechanisms report

Tuesday, 26 May 2015 15:14

The report “Financial support mechanisms for distributed solar technologies and energy efficiency deployment in the Mediterranean Countries” has been released and it is available for download on MED-DESIRE website, both in full version and as executive summary.

In the MENA region the private investments face a number of barriers, among these insufficient cash-flow generated by the project at current market conditions, high investment risk and difficult access to finance. Setting the right financial support framework is thus crucial to stimulate the diffusion of distributed solar technologies in the Mediterranean countries and requires mechanisms with qualifying and adequate criteria in order to avoid the adverse selection of investors.

The report describes the scenarios of incentives available and their effectiveness and efficiency, the possible best practices, the barriers to be removed in target countries, with a special focus on access to credit issues and some final remarks about the lessons learnt and the possible intervention by policy makers.
