In May 2015 LCEC organized many awareness raising activities targeted to the Lebanese young generations.
The first event “Green-energy-themed fair” with Scout Group of Champville was held on May 9th and 10th, 2015. The objective was to ensure and facilitate the sharing of lessons and experiences learned among scouts to promote EE and RE mindset. It is a green energy themed fair with 5,000 participants, which lasted for two days.
Another similar event took place on May 3rd, 2015. The Event was an awareness-raising day for the Boy Cub Scouts with over 3,000 contestants who participated in an energetic day that was full of activities done to promote the EE and RE mindset.
Regardless if the target groups varied depending on the event, all of the events contributed to the same goal raising awareness among participants of different ages, and were an incentive for the effective implementation of the MED-DESIRE project in Lebanon.
The third event was a “Green-energy’’ themed rally paper with ESIB and took place on May 9th and 10th 2015, with over 2,700 participants. The event lasted for two days, a wide range of awareness raising games was also present at the event and a beach party took place that same night.
More events were encouraged, mostly to increase the involvement of the society in the energy field, and make use of the appropriate tools and materials in the elaboration of the national awareness raising strategies.
The Bikeathon was held at the BRSS (Beirut River Solar Snake) surrounding the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW), on the 10th of May. It was also part of the MED-DESIRE project. Two hundred bikers took part. The event encouraged the adoption of “green cities standards” and was tested for a day to inspire a city free of cars. The bike ride was a 17 km free ride in the streets of Beirut, it included many stops, and one of them was at the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC).
